Corniche Cares 2018

Launching 'Corniche Cares' Campaign 2018

'Worldwide cases of cancer are predicted to reach 21.7 million by 2030'

After the huge success of our Project Rainbow Campaigns run over 2014/15/16, we have given some careful consideration as to where we would like to direct our charitable efforts this year.  For those of you who didn’t hear or weren’t here, we managed to raise more than 18,000 KD for the NBK Children’s Hospital, in particular the in-patient and out-patient oncology wards.  You can read more about these initiatives here.

Throughout these projects, with the help of our generous members and corporate partners, it was made very clear to us that as a club we have an enormous potential to make a big difference in the life of others, and where there is potential there is a responsibility.

With this in mind, we would like to proudly launch our ‘Corniche Cares’ initiative.  Building on our previous efforts, ‘Corniche Cares’ is not a singular event or project.  It is the blood line that will run throughout all of our charitable on-goings in 2018 and be the guiding force of our efforts moving forward.

It is always exceptionally difficult trying to decide where the funds raised are best placed as there are so many deserving causes.  However, like a lot of people we are sure, over the last year our Corniche team has been deeply affected by Cancer.  One of our long-standing team members, our matriarch to the club has fought and won the fight against Cancer.

To us, this has become intensely personal and so all of our 2018 ‘Corniche Cares’ proceeds will go towards supporting Cancer treatment for those who can’t afford it in Kuwait.

It is today, World Cancer Day, that we join the global battle against a disease that affects so many.  More specifically, in March we will be supporting the #WeCanICan campaign started by the Union for International Cancer Control.  We all know that we need to eat well and exercise regularly.  However, we have recently learnt that…

Around a third of all cancers are preventable through lifestyle changes, such as increasing physical activity and leading a less sedentary lifestyle

[Dr Cary Adams, Chief Executive Officer, Union for International Cancer Control (UICC)]

The #WeCanICan campaign is about personal and collective responsibility within our communities. As a club and as individuals, what can we do to take preventative measures?  It’s too easy sometimes to donate money and feel good about ourselves whilst forgetting to look after the healthy bodies we have at present.

That said, as well as raising awareness we also intend to raise a huge amount of money to help those who need it! And as with everything, for some they are just exceptionally unlucky and no amount of exercise or clean eating could have prevented what they have had to endure.

‘Corniche Cares’ is about coming together as a community, harnessing the power of many, asking ourselves the important questions and ultimately, serving those less fortunate than ourselves.  As a club, we know our members to be exceptionally generous and so we are beyond hopeful in our ability to make some really meaningful contributions to people’s lives this year.

We have a lot of ideas and events on the horizon, so we will be sure to keep you updated every step of the way and let you know how you can get involved.
